In a tragic incident, an Indian student has died in the US state of Ohio. The Indian Consulate in New York said that an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of his death. It has also assured to remain in touch with the family of the deceased. The student, identified as Uma Satya Sai Gadde, was reportedly pursuing his education in Ohio's Cleveland. This year witnessed a concerning trend of deaths involving Indian-origin students in the United States.
The Indian Consulate in New York extended condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of every possible support including transportation of his body to India.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, the Consulate General of India New York said, "Deeply saddened by the unfortunate demise of Mr. Uma Satya Sai Gadde, an Indian student in Cleveland, Ohio," the Indian Consulate in New York wrote in a post on X. "Police investigation is underway. @IndiainNewYork continues to remain in touch with the family in India. All possible assistance is being extended, including to transport Mr Uma Gadde's mortal remains to India at the earliest."

This incident comes after a 34-year-old trained Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam dancer from Suri in Bengal's Birbhum district who was pursuing his PhD at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, was reportedly shot dead in March this year.
Also, a 25-year-old Indian student from Hyderabad, Mohammed Abdul Arafat, went missing in the Cleveland area of the United States. After getting a "ransom call" for USD 1,200, his family has requested the External Affairs Ministry to find him. Arafat reportedly went to America to pursue his masters in IT from Cleveland University in May 2023 but has been missing since March 7, 2024.
Earlier in February this year, a 41-year-old Indian-origin IT professional identified as Vivek Taneja was critically injured during an assault outside a Washington restaurant.
