Rumours surrounding the disappearance of the infamous Annabelle doll have sparked a wave of panic and speculation, especially after a series of eerie events in New Orleans. The haunted doll, made notorious by Ed and Lorraine Warren’s paranormal investigations and later featured in The Conjuring franchise, was recently on tour across the United States as part of the “Devils on the Run” exhibition organised by the New England Society for Psychic Research (NESPR).

The scare began after a sold-out ghost tour hosted by Ghost City Tours in New Orleans between May 13 and 14. Shortly after the event, claims surfaced online that Annabelle had mysteriously vanished. Fueling the supernatural hysteria were two bizarre incidents that followed within days: a fire erupted at the historic Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, and ten inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Centre. With the cause of the fire still unknown and the escapees prompting a citywide manhunt, social media users quickly linked the chaos to Annabelle’s alleged disappearance.

Expert Weighs In: “We May Be Dealing With…”

Dark tourism expert Matthew Bartels, a content strategist for US Ghost Adventures, weighed in on the strange series of events. Speaking to The Mirror US, Bartels said, “Her disappearance raises many questions about her true capabilities following the chaos that ensued as she visited New Orleans.” He added ominously, “The Warrens warned the general public to never let her leave her case. Now that she has, we may be dealing with greater paranormal powers than we are prepared for.”

The “Devils on the Run” tour launched in May 2025 to give the public a rare glimpse at haunted objects from the now-shuttered Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, and spread the panic like wildfire online. Viral posts claimed Annabelle had escaped containment and was somehow involved in the disturbing incidents in Louisiana.

NESPR Responds: “Annabelle Is Home Safe”

In response, NESPR released an official statement to calm public fears. Senior NESPR member Dan Rivera posted a video showing a live walkthrough of the Warren Occult Museum. In it, he pointed directly at Annabelle, clearly visible and locked securely inside her glass case. “She is NOT lost,” Rivera confirmed. “Annabelle is home safe within the museum in Connecticut… for now.”

Local authorities also confirmed that no evidence connects the Annabelle doll to the Nottoway Plantation fire or the jail escape. The timing of these occurrences has left both believers and sceptics with chills, wondering if the doll’s legend is merely folklore or something far more sinister.
