At Pope Francis' funeral, US President Donald Trump chose a blue suit over traditional black. However, First Lady Melania Trump, who turned 55 on April 26, donned an elegant all-black attire, including a prominent veil. This sparked buzz online. Her look adhered to the customary Catholic funeral dress.

The buzz on social media was followed by Foad Izadi, an Iranian professor, who posted a picture of Melania, stating that the hijab signifies modesty and simplicity worldwide. Another person shared his post, describing Melania’s appearance as a quiet embodiment of grace, humility, and purity at the event.

But, this was not the first time when the First Lady wore such attire in a public place. According to the photos shared by the White House in 2017, she wore a similar black veil and formal black outfit when meeting Pope Francis. Notably, she was following the traditional protocol of head covering and long sleeves.

The funeral took place on Melania's 55th birthday, which Trump said they would celebrate aboard Air Force One after the service. He mentioned to the press that he had treated her to a meal on the plane during their first overseas trip since he took office again.

It is worth mentioning Trump and his wife has been staying separately since his return to the presidency. According to multiple media reports, the First Lady spends much of her time in New York, where their 19-year-old son Barron studies at university. Unlike the earlier presidencies, when both Trump and Melania had a frequent public appearance together, this time, the couple made a few joint appearances. Last time, both were seen together at the White House Easter egg roll.

Earlier last year, both spent her birthday apart-- Melania in Florida, Trump in New York for a legal case involving payments to porn star Stormy Daniels. He said at the time he wished he could be with her but was stuck in what he called an unfair trial.

Yes, Melania is a Catholic, noted as the first Catholic First Lady since Jacqueline Kennedy. She practices her religion privately and felt privileged to attend the pope’s funeral. According to media reports, Melania deeply admired the pope and saw the event as significant for Catholics everywhere.
