After surviving two assassination attempts, former US president Donald Trump on Wednesday stated that there are significant threats to his life from Iran, indicating that the entire US military is monitoring the situation. He mentioned that previous actions taken by Iran were unsuccessful but suggested that they may attempt further actions.
Taking to social media platform X, Trump wrote, “Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire US Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before.”
Donald Trump also expressed gratitude to Congress for unanimously approving increased funding for the Secret Service, noting that there were no "no" votes and highlighting the bipartisan support from both Republicans and Democrats.
“Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to Secret Service - Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker,” said Trump in a post on X.
National Intelligence Briefs Trump On Iranian Threats To His Life
The Trump campaign announced that the former president was briefed by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence about specific threats from Iran to assassinate him, aimed at creating instability and chaos in the United States.
"Intelligence officials have identified that these continued and coordinated attacks have heightened in the past few months, and law enforcement officials across all agencies are working to ensure President Trump is protected and the election is free from interference,” the campaign statement said.
Tehran has consistently threatened to take revenge against Trump for the drone strike he authorised that killed Revolutionary Guards general Qassem Soleimani on January 3, 2020.
According to a CBS News report, a Pakistani national with alleged connections to Iran was arrested in early August and charged with orchestrating a murder-for-hire plot aimed at US government officials and politicians, as detailed in court documents.
The suspect, 46-year-old Asif Merchant, is accused of planning to assassinate various current and former government officials, including former President and GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump, according to multiple sources familiar with the investigation.
