A heavily fortified black buggy dubbed “Golf Force One” has become the latest addition to US President Donald Trump’s high-level security detail. The armoured off-road vehicle was spotted shadowing Trump at his Turnberry golf resort in South Ayrshire, Scotland, amid one of the most intense security operations in recent UK history. The appearance of the custom vehicle comes nearly ten months after Trump survived two assassination attempts in the United States. Golf Force One was deployed to serve as a rapid-response and evacuation option, designed to keep the president safe on open golf courses, where traditional armored cars like The Beast cannot operate.

Golf Force One is a heavily customized, armour-plated Polaris Ranger XP buggy, a tough off-road vehicle often employed by UK emergency responders. In contrast to Trump's typical white golf cart, this customized black buggy has:

• Strengthened body panels
• Thick, tinted bullet-resistant windows
• A black stripe around the windscreen, potentially hiding internal armour
• Indented edges and hardened steel plating at the back
• Laminate or plexiglass windows
• Hidden floor and roof armour
• Lightweight bullet-resistant composites

High Alert Following Two Assassination Attempts

Trump's increased security measures come following two attempted assassinations in 2024:

1. July 2024 (Butler, Pennsylvania) – A 20-year-old rooftop sniper, Thomas Matthew Crooks, fired at a campaign rally. Trump received a minor injury, and one of the attendees was killed.
2. September 2024 (West Palm Beach, Florida) – Ryan Wesley Routh was seen carrying a semi-automatic rifle near a Trump-owned golf club. He was subsequently apprehended 40 miles away. Security agencies have since heightened security protocols around Trump's public outings, especially in outdoor and high-visibility zones such as golf courses.

During the visit by Trump to Turnberry, more than 1,500 officers — almost a third of Police Scotland's active strength — were deployed. These included:
• Armoured military vehicles
• Road checkpoints
• Rooftop snipers and drone surveillance
• Military airspace over Turnberry is restricted.

The Secret Service refused to comment on specific assets such as Golf Force One but did confirm using a "range of tools and protocols" to guard current and past protectees, according to The Telegraph. Trump's four-day trip to the UK was clouded with numerous protests and one bomb threat. At Glasgow, a flight had to be diverted for an emergency landing when a passenger indicated that he had explosives and wished to "send a message" to Trump. No bomb was discovered, but it caused additional worry regarding threats to Trump's safety while he is overseas. The base price of the vehicle is approximately USD 26,900, though modifications certainly drive the final cost much higher.

Golf Force One underscores how evolving threats are reshaping VIP security strategies, even in unlikely environments like a golf course. With the memory of past assassination attempts still fresh, Trump’s security detail is leaving nothing to chance, on or off the green.
