In a stunning development, House Democrats on Wednesday released a series of emails written by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, in which he claimed that US President Donald Trump “knew about the girls.” The emails, obtained by the House Oversight Committee and cited by The New York Times, reportedly contain new details about Trump’s past interactions with Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
According to the committee, Epstein directly asserted in one message that Trump had “spent hours at my house” with one of his victims, a statement suggesting the president had far greater knowledge of Epstein’s activities than he has publicly admitted.
The emails, dated between 2011 and 2019, were part of thousands of pages of correspondence recovered from Epstein’s seized digital archives. In one email sent to author Michael Wolff in January 2019, Epstein wrote, “Of course he knew about the girls as he asked Ghislaine to stop.” The message referred to Maxwell, Epstein’s longtime associate who was convicted in 2021 for her role in trafficking underage girls.
Emails Shed Light on Trump’s Connection
In the same exchange, Epstein appeared to contradict Trump’s claim that he had expelled the financier from Mar-a-Lago years earlier. “Trump said he asked me to resign,” Epstein wrote. “I was never a member ever.” He went on to add that Trump told Maxwell to stop recruiting young girls from the resort’s spa, where several of Epstein’s victims were allegedly first approached.
Democrats on the Oversight Committee said the revelations raise fresh concerns about why the Trump administration backtracked on its earlier promise to make all Epstein-related files public. The committee said the Justice Department must now “come clean” on what it knows about Trump’s connection to the disgraced financier. “Americans deserve to know the full truth,” a Democratic committee member told reporters. “These emails show that Epstein believed Donald Trump was aware of his crimes, and yet no one has ever been held accountable for covering them up.”
The release reignited the debate over Epstein’s political connections and the handling of his case by US authorities. Epstein died in a federal jail cell in August 2019 under circumstances officially ruled as suicide, though speculation about foul play has never fully faded.
Trump Says 'Hoax'
Though Trump repeatedly dismissed the allegations as part of a “Democrat hoax”. Speaking to reporters earlier, he maintained that his only connection to Epstein was through Palm Beach social circles decades ago. “He stole people that worked for me,” Trump said at the time. “When I heard about it, I told him he was out. And that’s what happened.”
Despite those denials, the newly released correspondence could increase political and legal pressure on both Trump and the Justice Department to revisit the Epstein files, a case that continues to haunt America’s most powerful circles.
