In a deeply disturbing case from Memphis, Tennessee, a woman has been arrested after police discovered the mummified remains of her young daughter in a hotel room. The case, now under investigation, has shocked the community and raised serious questions about mental health, neglect, and child welfare.
Deputies first encountered the woman, identified as Kimberly Moore, at the Home Inn and Suites. She reportedly told officers that she was there to monitor hotel staff and even claimed her husband owned the establishment. Initially, nothing about her behaviour seemed alarming to deputies.
The situation quickly escalated when a strong odour was detected coming from Moore’s room. When questioned, Moore allegedly acted as though she couldn’t smell anything and began behaving oddly, according to court documents.

Shocking Discovery
Upon conducting a search of the hotel room, deputies made a horrific discovery: the body of Moore’s daughter, Chloe, was found lying in a bed. The child’s remains were reportedly cold to the touch, malnourished, and in a mummified state. Flies were also observed on her body, suggesting that the child had been dead for an extended period.
A medical examiner called to the scene later confirmed that Chloe had been deceased “for quite some time” and noted the advanced stage of decomposition.
Disturbing Claims And Mental Health Concerns
While in custody, Moore allegedly made troubling statements during questioning. She told detectives that her daughter was “still with her,” and added, “God is with her and her daughter.” She also refused to answer questions about basic needs, like food and sleep, and repeatedly insisted that she reads her Bible.
Detectives determined that Moore was experiencing hallucinations, believing her daughter was still alive. She was subsequently transported to a healthcare facility for psychiatric evaluation before being processed into jail.
Moore is currently being held at a local detention facility on a $5,000 bond. She is expected to appear in court on Tuesday morning. The case is now being handled by both law enforcement and mental health professionals, as investigations continue into the timeline of events and the exact cause of death.
