New York City’s mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has opened the doors of City Hall to what he calls the “top talent” of New York. In a move praised for transparency and inclusion, the 34-year-old leader has launched a public resume portal allowing residents to apply for roles across his incoming administration. The decision reflects Mamdani’s promise to build a government focused on affordability, equity, and modern governance

According to Mamdani’s transition team, all roles are now accepting applications, including deputy mayors, commissioners, senior advisors, and administrative staff. Rather than quietly staffing positions behind closed doors, Mamdani is inviting passionate public servants, policy specialists, and community voices to step forward.

Interested candidates can visit the official resume portal, upload their credentials, and indicate their preferred policy sectors. Applicants are encouraged to come from all five boroughs, ensuring diversity not only in race and gender but also in geography, class, and lived experience.

Transition Executive Director Elana Leopold emphasised the significance of the open search, saying the team aims to “hit the ground running and enact the agenda that got Zohran elected.”

Who’s Leading The Transition

Mamdani’s transition committee has already gained attention for being an all-women leadership slate. The group includes former First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, United Way NYC President Grace Bonilla, former Federal Trade Commission Chair Lina Khan, and former Deputy Mayor Melanie Hartzog, along with Leopold.

Their primary task is to evaluate applicants, help shape department leadership, and prepare for Mamdani’s January inauguration. The composition of the team signals priorities: tech-savvy regulation, urban planning experience, economic fairness, and community impact.

How To Apply

The portal allows users to upload resumes and select from subjects such as:

Arts and culture

Criminal justice

Public safety

Transportation

Youth and education

Economic development

Health

Legal affairs

Applicants will be reviewed on qualifications, relevant experience, and their contribution to Mamdani’s affordability agenda, one that aims to confront rising rents, public safety concerns, and transit challenges.

Elected on November 4, Mamdani becomes New York’s youngest mayor in nearly 100 years, and the city’s first Muslim and first Indian-American mayor. His administration will oversee critical sectors like policing, schools, transit networks, and infrastructure for more than 10 million residents across Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, and the Bronx.
