Shakira is one of the most popular singer-songwriters in the world and has achieved great heights in her career. The 'Waka Waka' singer, who is also known as the icon of feminism, criticised 'Barbie' and felt it was 'emasculating'. In a recent interview with Allure, she talked about the importance of showing empowered women in the movies without criticising men. Shakira further revealed that her sons hate 'Barbie' and she wants them to feel powerful too.
While speaking to Allure about 'Barbie', she said, "My sons absolutely hated it. They felt that it was emasculating. And I agree, to a certain extent. I'm raising two boys. I want 'em to feel powerful too [while] respecting women. I like pop culture when it attempts to empower women without robbing men of their possibility to be men, to also protect and provide. I believe in giving women all the tools and the trust that we can do it all without losing our essence, without losing our femininity."

She added, "I think that men have a purpose in society and women have another purpose as well. We complement each other, and that complement should not be lost. Just because a woman can do it all doesn’t mean she should? Why not share the load with people who deserve to carry it, who have a duty to carry it as well?”
'Barbie' stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken respectively. The movie also stars Issa Rae, Alexandra Shipp, Ana Cruz Kayne, Emma Mackey Nicola Coughlan, Dua Lipa, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans among others.

In an interview with The Guardian, Greta Gerwig revealed that she was terrified before directing 'Barbie'. “It’s not like a superhero, who already has a story. It felt very much like it was going to be an adaptation. Except what we were adapting is a doll – an icon of the 20th century,” she said.
She further told The Guardian, "It felt complicated enough, sticky enough, strange enough, that maybe there could be something interesting there to be discovered. I kind of had two thoughts: I love this and I can’t bear it if anyone else makes it. And they’ll never let us make this movie.”
'Barbie' is co-written by Greta Gerwig and her husband and filmmaker Noah Baumbach. It is co-produced by Mattel Films, Heyday Films and Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley’s, LuckyChap Entertainment. Josey McNamara from LuckyChap and Ynon Kreiz from Mattel serve as executive producers.
