Sriram Krishnan, an Indian-American entrepreneur, was appointed as the senior White House policy advisor on artificial intelligence (AI) by US President-elect Donald Trump on Monday. Trump, in a statement, announced that Krishnan will play a crucial role in shaping and coordinating AI policy across the government.

Krishnan will work with the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology in the Trump administration. In his statement, Trump also mentioned his accomplishments as a founding member of Microsoft's Windows Azure team. Replying to Trump's post on X, Krishnan thanked him for this opportunity and stated that he was looking forward to working with him.

Who is Sriram Krishnan?

Born and brought up in Chennai, Krishnan completed his graduation in engineering in information technology from SRM Engineering College in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. His father worked in the insurance sector, and his mother worked as a homemaker. Krishnan later moved to the US in 2005 for a profession at the age of 21.

Krishnan's journey in the tech world has been remarkable, and he has led many teams. He is known to be the brain behind many innovative ideas in tech giants, including Yahoo, Microsoft, and Facebook.

He started his tech career at Microsoft in 2005 and later led product teams at Twitter, Yahoo, Facebook, and Snapchat. He also developed mobile ad products during his tenure at Facebook and Snap. Sriram has a good professional relationship with billionaire Elon Musk and worked with him to make changes in Twitter (now X) in 2022.

Krishnan later became a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) in February 2021 and led the firm's London office. However, he left the company in November 2023 and moved back to the US.

Sriram Krishnan made headlines in 2021 when he appeared as a host of the podcast ‘The Aarthi and Sriram Show' (formerly known as ‘The Good Time Show'). He worked on the podcast with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.
