Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on Monday, marking his return to the White House. The inauguration ceremony, held inside the Capitol Rotunda due to severe cold, saw Chief Justice John Roberts administering the oath of office to Trump. Vice President JD Vance was sworn in earlier during the event. Trump’s fiery inaugural speech, delivered after the swearing-in, focused on ambitious reforms, declaring January 20 as “Liberation Day.”
In his address, Trump announced that the “golden age of America” had begun, vowing swift action through executive orders. He declared, “The decline of America is over. Change starts today. The world will no longer be able to use America.” He outlined a robust “America First” policy, promising to restore the nation’s status as the most powerful and respected country globally. Key promises included combating corruption, reducing inflation and strengthening the nation’s sovereignty.
Trump emphasised that his presidency would focus on ensuring America’s interests come first, stating, “Our policy will be America First. We will end illegal immigration and take bold steps to secure our borders.”

Notably, Trump is the first US president to assume office after being convicted of a crime, related to alleged embezzlement to cover up payments to a porn star.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including former US Presidents Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton. Outgoing President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden welcomed Trump and his wife, Melania, to the White House before the ceremony. Billionaires and CEOs such as Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Meta’s Mark Zuckerberg were also present.
