Donald Trump was sworn in as the President of the United States for a historic second term on Monday. As expected, he wasted no time in announcing several major moves, including invoking a national emergency at the southern border and renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, shortly after taking office.
Replying to a question on the proposed US-TikTok deal, Trump stated that the US would impose tariffs on China if the deal were not approved by them.

"If China didn't approve it (US-TikTok deal), we could put tariffs on China. Don't forget. China charges us tariffs and we charge them very little except for what I did – I put a lot, we took in hundreds of billions of dollars. But until I came along, China never paid 10 cents to this country. They ripped us off and they never paid anything. If we wanted to make a deal with TikTok and it was a good deal, and China wouldn't approve it, then I think ultimately they'd approve it because we would put tariffs on China. I am not saying I would but you certainly could do that..." Trump said.
Regarding the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Trump expressed his intention to pursue swift measures to end the war, adding that it would never have occurred had he been president when the unrest began. "We are going to try and get it done as quickly as possible. The war between Ukraine and Russia would have never started if I were the President," he said.
Trump also reiterated that the US would take back Greenland from Denmark, citing national security concerns. "Greenland is a wonderful place and we need it for international security. I am sure Denmark will come along since it is costing them a lot of money to keep it. The people of Greenland are not happy with Denmark... Not for us, it is necessary for international security. You have Russian and Chinese boats and warships all over the place," he said.
Trump Signs Fresh Executive Orders
Trump signed a series of new Executive Orders, including one that pardons nearly everyone criminally charged in connection with the January 2021 US Capitol attack. The order also directs the US Attorney General to drop all pending cases related to the riot. This was a key promise from Trump’s campaign. In addition, Trump signed an order to halt the ban on TikTok.
Earlier, Trump also signed a document formalising the US withdrawal from the Paris Accord.
Immediately following his inauguration at the Capitol, which was attended by numerous prominent figures from both the US and abroad, Trump delivered an inaugural address in which he announced a record number of Executive Orders for the first day of his second presidency.
