Former US President Donald Trump is scheduled to debate US Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10, 2024, on ABC News. This will be the first time the two will face off as part of the 2024 presidential race.

Trump, speaking from his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, stated that his campaign has agreed to three debates, to be hosted by Fox News, ABC News, and NBC News. The September 10 debate, hosted by ABC News, is the only one where Harris has agreed to participate.

"I think it's very important to have debates," Trump told reporters, adding that his campaign has reached tentative agreements for debates with Fox News on September 4 and NBC News on September 25. However, he noted that the Harris campaign is only confirmed for the ABC News debate on September 10.

Vice President Kamala Harris, while in Detroit for an event with the United Auto Workers, confirmed her participation in the September 10 debate through a post on X.

"I'm glad that he's finally agreed to a debate on September 10th. I'm looking forward to it, and I hope he shows up," she added, as quoted by CNN.

ABC News released a statement confirming that both Trump and Harris have committed to the September 10 debate. The network will host all qualifying presidential candidates. "ABC News will host qualifying presidential candidates to debate on September 10 on ABC. Vice President Harris and former President Trump have both confirmed they will attend."

Trump also mentioned that CBS News would host a vice-presidential debate in the following month, where his running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, will participate. Harris's running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, has been active in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

Trump's debate with Harris comes after his decision to drop out of a previous ABC News debate following President Joe Biden's announcement that he would not seek reelection. Trump had debated Biden in late June before exiting the presidential race.
