Bringing an end to a decade-and-a-half-long struggle, the Noida Authority has commenced work to connect the sewer line in Garhi-Shahdara village to the main drain. Officials have decided to execute the project at an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 crore to provide much-needed relief to the residents. Excavation work in the village began on Tuesday.

A Long-Standing Civic Issue

For the past 15 years, the residents of Garhi-Shahdara have been forced to live amidst filth and foul smells due to the absence of a functional sewer connection.

The Root Cause: While a sewer line was laid in the village over a decade ago by previous officials, it was left incomplete and never connected to the main drainage system.

The Impact: This negligence resulted in constant overflow, creating unhygienic conditions for the villagers.

Administrative Action

Following persistent demands from the community, the project has been revived on the instructions of the Authority's CEO, Dr Lokesh M. A tender worth Rs 2.5 crore has been issued to finally connect the village line to the main drain, which is expected to permanently solve the overflow problem.

Residents Call It A "Victory"

Subhash Bhati, State Senior Vice President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Bhanu) and President of the Garhi-Shahdara Village Development Committee (Gram Vikas Samiti), described the start of the work as a victory for the people.

"Due to the absence of a sewer line in Garhi-Shahdara, people were having to endure filth and foul smells. For the past several years, many of us had been repeatedly visiting the Authority to demand this solution," Bhati stated.

Veer Singh Pradhan also expressed relief, noting that the villagers had been troubled by the sewer problem for many years. He remarked that their hard work in petitioning the Noida Authority has finally paid off.
