Amethi Murders: A woman, who was killed along with her husband and two young children in Amethi on Thursday, had filed a police complaint two months ago that their lives were in danger from a man who had threatened to murder them on more than one occasion. She had also said that he would be responsible if anything happened to her and her family.
Poonam Bharti, her husband and two daughters - just one and six years old - were shot dead at their house in Amethi's Bhavani Nagar by assailants. The police presumed it a case of premeditated murder and said that the crime did not look like a robbery gone wrong.
Victim Had Filed Complaint Against Chandan Verma
Police officials said that Bharti had lodged a complaint against one Chandan Verma in August, alleging sexual harassment, threat to life and various SC/ST act provisions. According to an NDTV report, Bharti had alleged in her FIR that Chandan Verma misbehaved and abused her when she had gone to a hospital in Raebareli with her husband to get medication.
Bharti accused Chandan Verma of slapping her and her husband and abusing them during the scuffle. She also said that he used casteist slurs against them.
"He said if you report this I will kill you. He has threatened to kill me before this as well. My family is in danger. If any incident or accident happens with me or my husband in the future, Chandan Verma will be responsible. I request you to register my report and take appropriate action," she had said in the FIR as reported by the NDTV.
