Passengers travelling to Bihar and West Bengal will soon experience improved rail connectivity, as the Indian Railways is set to introduce two new Amrit Bharat Express trains originating from Gomtinagar—one to Darbhanga and the other to Malda Town. Both trains will commence operations as special services from July 18, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating them virtually from Motihari.

These trains will run via Ayodhya, enhancing regional connectivity. The Railway Board has issued a timetable notification, and orders for their regular operation are expected soon.

Malda Town – Gomtinagar – Malda Town Amrit Bharat Express (Weekly)

The train will depart Malda Town every Thursday at 7:25 PM, arriving at Gomtinagar on Friday at 3:40 PM. The return journey will begin Friday at 6:40 PM, reaching Malda Town at 4:40 PM the next day.

The train will comprise 22 coaches—a mix of sleeper and general classes—and will halt at major stations including New Farakka, Barharwa, Sahibganj, Bhagalpur, Gaya, Dehri on Sone, Varanasi, Shahganj, and Ayodhya.

Darbhanga – Gomtinagar – Darbhanga Amrit Bharat Express (Weekly)

Train number 15561 will leave Darbhanga every Saturday at 3:00 PM, reaching Gomtinagar at 5:35 AM on Sunday. On its return, train number 15562 will depart Gomtinagar on Sunday at 8:15 AM, arriving in Darbhanga at 12:35 PM.

Important stoppages include Ayodhya Cantt, Gorakhpur, Raxaul, Janakpur Road, among others.

Despite being equipped with WAP-5 class engines in push-pull configuration (one at the front, one at the rear), the average speed of the trains will remain modest.

-Gomtinagar to Malda Town (971 km) will take 22 hours, with an average speed of 42.77 km/h.

-In the reverse direction, the speed improves slightly to 46.47 km/h.
