Gorakhpur will soon see improved rail connectivity with the introduction of a new non-AC premium Amrit Bharat train. The weekly 14628/14627 Chheharta–Saharsa–Chheharta Express will start regular operations from September 20, running from Chheharta (Amritsar) every Saturday and from Saharsa every Monday.
The train, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15, will feature eight sleeper class and 11 general second-class coaches, offering advanced travel amenities such as mobile charging ports, air spring coaches, radium floor strips, clean and accessible toilets, fire detection systems, talk-back units, and modern lighting.
According to North Eastern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Pankaj Kumar Singh, the new service will strengthen connectivity between Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar, making travel from Gorakhpur more convenient.
The 14628 Chheharta-Saharsa Amrit Bharat Express will depart Chheharta at 10:20 PM every Saturday, passing through Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ambala Cantt, Moradabad, Sitapur, Budhwal, Gonda, and Basti, arriving in Gorakhpur at 10:15 PM on the second day. After a 10-minute halt, it will continue via Kaptanganj and Narkatiaganj, reaching Saharsa at 10:00 AM on the third day.
The return service, 14627 Saharsa–Chheharta Amrit Bharat Express, will depart Saharsa at 1:00 PM every Monday, passing through Sitamarhi, Raxaul, Narkatiaganj, and Kaptanganj, reaching Gorakhpur at 3:55 AM on the second day. After a short stop, it will continue via Basti, Gonda, Budhwal, Sitapur, Moradabad, and Ambala Cantt, reaching Chheharta at 3:00 AM on the third day.
This addition brings the total number of Amrit Bharat trains serving Bihar via Gorakhpur to five, further enhancing the region’s rail network. Other existing services include Delhi-Sitamarhi, Gomtinagar–Darbhanga, Bapudham Motihari-Anand Vihar, and Anand Vihar–Darbhanga via Ayodhya and Gorakhpur, with plans underway for a Chhapra-Anand Vihar route via Gorakhpur.
