Bareilly News: A 45-year-old vegetable vendor died in Bareilly’s Baradari area after civic workers allegedly dumped sewer waste on him while he was sleeping under a tree near a cemetery. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon but was confirmed by police officials on Saturday.
The deceased, identified as Sunil Kumar Prajapati, was a resident of Shantipur locality. He had reportedly been resting under the tree near his house and was allegedly intoxicated when the incident took place. A team of municipal workers arrived with a tractor-trolley filled with sewer sludge and dumped the waste without noticing Prajapati lying underneath.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anurag Arya said the civic team was led by a man named Naem. The vehicle driver, part of the team, allegedly failed to see Prajapati before offloading the waste.
Prajapati's son discovered his father buried under the sludge and, with the help of locals, managed to pull him out. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
A case has been registered at Baradari police station against the civic workers involved, following a complaint filed by the victim’s father.

SSP Arya stated that negligence by the civic staff led to the fatal incident.
Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Maurya told PTI that an investigation has been ordered. He assured that suitable action will be taken once the inquiry is completed.
Police are currently probing the circumstances under which the civic workers operated in a residential area without checking for the presence of people.
