In a tragic incident, the body of a child was found in an iron box under the Nakatiya bridge on the Delhi-Lucknow highway in Bareilly. The child, believed to be around eight to nine years old, was found with packets and toffees and crisps inside the box.
According to Izzatnagar police, the village head of Kumrah reported that an iron box containing the body of a child was lying near the Nakatiya River in the morning. When officers opened it, they found the body of a boy dressed in an orange T-shirt and black lowers, wrapped in a red cloth. Snacks were also recovered from inside the container.
Izzatnagar Inspector Bijendra Singh said that people in the neighbourhood are being shown photographs to identify the child, though his identity remains unknown.
Initial investigation points to possible strangulation, as marks were found on the neck along with an injury near the eye. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
