In an unfortunate incident, over 24 people were injured after a bus they were travelling in overturned near the Bahadurpur police post in the Tareya Sujan police station area of UP's Kushinagar district.

The bus was travelling from Jaipur to Madhubani on NH027 when the driver lost control and overturned. All the passengers were reportedly from Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Chanpatia, and surrounding areas in Bihar.

Upon receiving the information, teams from the Uttar Pradesh Police and local administration arrived at the accident site and initiated relief operations. The injured were sent to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Tamkuhiraj for first aid, while the seriously injured passengers were referred to Kushinagar Sadar Hospital.

Kuchaykot Block Development Officer Sunil Kumar Mishra and CO Mani Bhushan Kumar also reached the spot and helped in the relief work.

Driver dozed off, bus hit divider

According to initial reports, the bus lost control after the driver dozed off. Because of this, the bus hit a divider and overturned. The vehicle was overloaded with passengers and a large amount of Chhath Puja-related luggage was loaded on the roof.

The injured included Vijay Mahato, a resident of Sumhi in Madhubani district, his wife Babita Devi and three daughters, Anamika, Aanchal Kumari and Shivani; Vijay Mishra, a resident of Darbhanga, Ura Mandal and Kiran Kumari of Madhubani; Bechan Ram of Basantpur, Renu Devi of Mubarakpur, Ramkaran of Kamalpur, Chandan of Madhubani, Tetri Devi of Samastipur, Vimla Devi and Vijay Kumar, residents of Chanpatia.

Half a dozen of the injured were in critical condition and were referred to Kushinagar's Sadar Hospital, while others were being treated at the Community Health Centre (CHC). The accident caused a nearly kilometre-long traffic jam on the Bihar-Uttar Pradesh border, which cleared after three hours.
