A final-year B.Tech Chemical Engineering student at the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) in Janakipuram, Lucknow, died under suspicious circumstances on Friday. The deceased has been identified as 21-year-old Akash Singh.
The incident came to light on Friday morning when Akash's classmates called him for class at 9:50 am. When their calls went unanswered, they went to his room, number 203 in the Raman-B hostel, and knocked. After the door did not open, the hostel administration was informed.
Discovery And Initial Investigation
Friends noted that the door was locked from the inside. A carpenter was called to open the door, and Akash was found lying on the floor.
A doctor was immediately called and after an examination, declared him dead, stating that the death had occurred much earlier. The police, who arrived at the scene, found no visible signs of injury or bleeding on the body, and there was no evidence to suggest suicide. A heart attack is suspected.
The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination.
Student Was 'Good At Studies'
Professor Vineet Kansal, Director of IET Lucknow, stated that Akash Singh was a final-year student and was "very good at his studies."
Friends reported that Akash and other students had returned on October 29 after the Diwali holidays. They had spoken to him on Thursday, but he had not gone to the mess for dinner. Some food was found on his table.
When Akash's parents' calls also went unanswered on Friday morning, his friends went to his room.
His parents, who live in Varanasi, have been informed. The student's local guardians, his uncle and aunt, have arrived at the institute.
