If you are one of those who brush their teeth at taps on the platform in the morning during a train journey, or wash utensils there after eating, then beware. The Railways has started taking strict action against such passengers.

According to the Railways Act, 1989, brushing teeth, spitting, or washing clothes or utensils anywhere on the railway station premisesother than designated areas (like toilets or washrooms)falls under the category of an offense. If found doing so, passengers can be fined up to Rs 500.

According to railway officials, continuous drives are being conducted to maintain cleanliness on station premises. Commercial Inspector In-charge DD Shukla stated that special places have been designated for passengers' cleaning needs.

Performing personal hygiene tasks at platform taps or in open areas, outside of these designated locations, is not only a violation of the rules but is also inconvenient for other passengers. He informed that the commercial department is imposing fines in such cases through periodic inspections.

A drive will soon be launched at all stations in the district to take action against people found brushing teeth or washing utensils or clothes on the platforms, similar to actions taken at several other stations.

An appeal has been made to passengers to use only the designated toilets and wash basins. Additionally, do not throw chip wrappers, bottles, or other garbage on the train or at the station. Maintaining cleanliness is the responsibility of every citizen. If the rules are broken, a fine can be imposed, which could make your journey more expensive.
