Police in Agra's Malpura area have arrested a man accused of murdering his 19-year-old nephew and setting his body on fire, reportedly in retaliation for being blackmailed with inappropriate photos of his underage daughter.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Atul Sharma confirmed that the incident occurred on February 18 last year. However, the victim's identity was only confirmed much later through DNA testing. The suspect, identified as Deviram, has been taken into custody.
According to the investigation, the victim, Rakesh, was called to Deviram’s shop, where he was allegedly strangled by Deviram and another nephew, Nitya Kishore. The two then placed Rakesh’s body in a blue plastic drum, transported it in a small goods vehicle to a remote area, and set it on fire after pouring petrol over it, as reported by News18.
Forensic analysis later confirmed the remains belonged to Rakesh, helping police finally piece together the case. Officers believe the murder was driven by a personal family conflict, Deviram was reportedly furious after learning that Rakesh had taken inappropriate photos of his daughter and was using them to blackmail him.
Deviram, a resident of Kuboolpur village and son of Shankar Singh Baghel, has been arrested, while his alleged accomplice, Nitya Kishore, is still on the run. Investigators also discovered that the victim’s mobile phone was thrown into the Khari River in an effort to destroy evidence.
