It's only been six months since the Chapraula Rail Over Bridge, connecting Greater Noida West to GT Road, was opened, but its road surface is already in bad shape. This bridge, which took 12 years to build, is now broken in several places and has about eight large potholes, turning it from a helpful facility into a new problem.
This bridge had provided a huge relief to people from the hours-long traffic jams at the Chapraula railway crossing. But now, due to the poor condition of the road, traffic jams are happening again, especially during the busy morning and evening hours. When it rains, these potholes fill with water, making the situation even worse and increasing the risk of accidents. Local residents say that vehicles, particularly e-rickshaws, often come close to tipping over while trying to navigate the damaged road.
People are angry that a facility they waited so many years for has become ruined so quickly. Locals like Bharat Kumar Jha and Hatveer say that due to the potholes, people are frequently getting into accidents, and traffic jams have become a daily issue in the mornings and evenings.
The bridge was a joint project by the Railways and the state government, with a total cost of about Rs 84.43 crore. The Railways had completed their part of the bridge back in 2019, but the project was stalled for four years because the Public Works Department (PWD) did not build the connecting roads. Later, after a former minister, Nawab Singh Nagar, intervened, the Railway Minister at the time, Ashwini Vaishnaw, instructed the Railways to complete the connecting roads at their own expense. The bridge was finally opened in April 2025.
Regarding this issue, the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Prayagraj Railway Division, Amit Kumar Singh, stated that the department is aware of the problem. Some temporary patchwork has been done, but permanent repairs are on hold because of the rainy season. He gave an assurance that the road will be repaired after the monsoon ends. He also added that an investigation will be conducted to find out why the road deteriorated so quickly.
