Intelligence and security agencies have raised concerns following the sudden activation of the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) across the country. The intelligence department suspects that the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) may be collaborating in this activity, prompting a formal investigation into the connection between the two groups.
PFI Sleeper Cell Network Under Scrutiny
Sources indicate that since the organisation was banned, PFI members have ceased formal activities and are now operating along the lines of sleeper cells. This operational style is reportedly confirmed by terrorist connections emerging from Haryana to Delhi and other parts of the country.
Key aspects of the investigation include:
Delhi Terror Incident: The role of PFI is under investigation in a recent terrorist incident that occurred in Delhi.
Active Modules: A PFI sleeper module is reported to be active in the NCR, including Western Uttar Pradesh.
Monitoring: Following PFI's history of involvement in terrorism and anti-national activities, various agencies have joined intelligence services in monitoring individuals associated with the group. Dossiers previously compiled on PFI members are being re-scrutinised.
PFI Operations In Western Uttar Pradesh
While PFI's main base was Kerala, the organisation rapidly expanded its network in Western Uttar Pradesh after its members went underground following the ban.
Alleged Activities and Key Figures In Western UP, PFI members allegedly began conducting anti-national activities, including religious conversion, 'love jihad', and brainwashing the youth. This entire network was reportedly commanded by Parvez, the PFI in-charge for Western UP.
- Kalchhina Village Identified as Hub Kalchhina village in Modinagar has been identified as the center for PFI in Western Uttar Pradesh.
- Parvez, the Western UP in-charge, resides in this village.
- The village is reported to have more than 50 active PFI members.
- Security agencies have conducted raids in Kalchhina previously but reportedly had to return empty-handed and faced resistance from villagers.
- Parvez, who was arrested in the past, is now reported to be underground again.
Broader Allegations And Background
- Role in CAA/NRC Protests PFI reportedly played a significant role in the 2019 protests against the CAA and NRC.
- Parvez's name emerged in connection with unrest at several locations across the state.
- An FIR was registered against Parvez for disturbances in Muradnagar.
- Agencies are now intensifying their investigation by scrutinizing the lists of all individuals against whom FIRs were filed or who were bound by sureties during that time.
Funding and Incitement Intelligence agencies have received information regarding PFI's funding and ideological motivations:
- Funding: Following the ban, funding for PFI's activities is allegedly being provided from Kerala, several districts in South India, and smaller Muslim organizations.
- Incitement: The investigation has revealed that PFI is allegedly inciting Muslim youth against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with the aim of harming the country's integrity.
- Interrogations: During the interrogation of previously arrested PFI members, agencies were reportedly told that PFI's "conspiracies cannot succeed" while the RSS, PM Modi, and CM Yogi are present. This has led agencies to believe they might support terrorists to defame them.
Based on this information, agencies believe there is a strong possibility of a PFI connection behind the recent activity of Jaish-e-Mohammed. The primary concern is that terrorists may use PFI's strong, underground national network to execute their plans or that PFI may collaborate with them directly.
