Due to the "regret" situation of train tickets for those going home for Diwali this year, it has become an opportunity for airline companies. As the demand for flight seats increases, so do the fares. The situation is such that a month and a half before Diwali, the fares have already reached more than three times the normal rate.
According to experts, air fares may increase significantly more this year than before. During the festivals of Dussehra, Diwali, and Chhath Puja, a large number of passengers travel to their homes in Lucknow from cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Amritsar, and several cities in South India. Until last year, the railways opened train reservation bookings 120 days in advance. In addition, a large waiting list was available for passengers. The railways have now reduced the advance reservation period to 60 days and have also reduced the waiting list quota for passengers in both AC and non-AC classes. As a result, trains reach a "regret" status as soon as the waiting list hits 60 percent of the available seats.
With trains for Lucknow on October 17 already showing "regret" status, passengers are booking flight tickets in large numbers. As a result, this year's increase in fares started a week before the festival. The problem of expensive air fares will worsen for passengers with each seat that is booked. It is estimated that the fare from Mumbai to Lucknow could reach between Rs 28,000 to Rs 30,000 this time. The fares for these flights have increased.
