Farrukhabad Deaths: Two boys have been arrested by the UP Police in connection with the double suicide by two girls, including one minor, in Uttar Pradesh's Farrukhabad. The Bodies of both girls were found hanging on a tree outside their village in Farrukhabad three days ago. The arrested accused - Pawan and Deepak - are believed to be in romantic relationships with the deceased victims.
According to police, the girls came to know that their boyfriends were cheating on them, which prompted them to commit suicide. Both the accused will be presented in the court on Saturday, the officials added.
The girls - one 15 and another 18-year-old went to attend a Janmashtami festival on Monday evening but did not return. Later their bodies were found hanging on a tree at a mango orchard on Tuesday morning, the reports stated. Both of their necks were tied to each end of a 'Dupatta' running across a branch.
UP Police Declare 'Suicides'
After initial findings and post-mortem report, Farrukhabad police declared it a case of double suicide. However, the parents of the victims have claimed their daughters were murdered. The police have booked the accused for abetment of suicide under section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
The tragic incident also attracted significant political attention with Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav demanding a swift investigation by the Uttar Pradesh government in the case.
Meanwhile, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi shared a video of the father of the victim, in which he termed the entire investigation as 'fake'. The Congress leader said security is the right of every daughter of India and justice is the right of every suffering family.
