The Transport Department in Gautam Buddh Nagar district has begun cracking down on defaulters. For the financial year 2025–26, the department had set a recovery target of Rs 3.99 crore for the seven months from April to October.

Of this, Rs 2.25 crore has been recovered so far. Officials are now preparing to identify the remaining major defaulters and intensify action against them.

According to the Transport Department, Rs 2.25 crore was recovered in the last seven months. In October alone, a recovery of Rs 23,17,000 was made. Of this, Rs 1.61 crore was recovered from vehicles registered in the district, while Rs 64,34,000 was collected from vehicles from other states or districts.

The department states that notices have already been sent to vehicle owners who have not paid their dues across various categories. According to Transport Department officials, the recovery of dues is being regularly reviewed.

Further action, including fines, seizure, and other strict measures, may be taken against vehicle owners who have not paid tax, fitness fees, permit charges, or other liabilities. The department has indicated that the recovery drive will be intensified in November and December to get closer to the target. In October, the department sent notices to more than 50,000 vehicle owners.
