Despite the onset of winter and a subsequent halving of electricity consumption, residents in the district continue to struggle with power cuts. Daily consumption has fallen to approximately 900 to 1,000 megawatts (MW), yet officials cite "faults" to shirk responsibility when complaints are made.
This contrasts sharply with the summer season, when electricity consumption reached up to 1,900 MW. During that period, rampant power cuts were attributed to overloading, failing transformers, and other faults. Now, even with consumption halved, residents are receiving no relief from the cuts.
Discrepancy Between Transmission Capacity And Distribution
Electricity transmission officials claim the issue does not lie at their level. They state they have a capacity of 3,338 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere), and the current electricity consumption is less than a third of this capacity.
According to transmission officials, the blame for the power cuts rests with the distribution infrastructure. They assert that if the distribution infrastructure were "robust and balanced," there would be no cuts, indicating the recurring power cuts are due to faults at the distribution level.
Electricity Consumption in the Past Week:
November 14: 932 MW

November 12: 980 MW
November 11: 997 MW
November 10: 960 MW

Official And Consumer Responses
Pawan Agarwal, Executive Chief Engineer, Electricity Corporation Zone-Three: "Providing an uninterrupted supply to most areas is a priority. Power cuts only occur due to faults and technical reasons. Work is being carried out under various schemes to strengthen the infrastructure."
Consumer Statements:
A consumer named Harikishan said,"Even while living in the city, the electricity supply is like that in the villages. Despite complaints, officials of the electricity corporation do not resolve the issue. Most of the power cuts are due to faults."
