The Ghaziabad Police has planned to assign QR codes to over 26,000 e-rickshaws running in the city in a bid to ramp up security measures and help in traffic management in favour of the passengers, especially women.

The QR codes will be pasted on the front, back, and inside the e-rickshaws so as to make them easily traceable and readable.

On Monday, Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alok Priyadarshi launched the campaign by affixing QR codes to 186 e-rickshaws at the police lines, and these e-rickshaws were put on the road.

Ghaziabad is the first Commissionerate in the state where this scheme is being implemented simultaneously across the entire district. The campaign will continue until all the e-rickshaws are assigned the QR codes.

How will it help in traffic management?

The Ghaziabad Police has divided the city into five zones. The e-rickshaws will be assigned QR codes with zone-wise colours. The e-rickshaws registered under a particular zone will be allowed to run within the dedicated zone to diffuse concentration and streamline the operations in the city.

The visible colour will help the traffic police to identify the violations and take action. Here's how the division is planned.

Red Zone

Green Zone

Move to ramp up passenger security

With the assignment of QR codes, all the information about the vehicle registration will pop up on the screen with just a scan. This will not only help the police officials to prevent unregulated movement, but also help passengers to report an incident of crime by the vehicle.

The QR codes will also help women to have full knowledge about the owner of the rickshaw, eventually making the travelling more secure in the city.
