A professor at ABES Engineering College in Ghaziabad allegedly asked a student to leave the stage after he chanted the “Jai Shri Ram” slogan ahead of his performance at a cultural fest. The incident took place on Friday, was captured on video and went viral on social media, sparking a debate among netizens.
The video shows the student taking the mic and chanting “Jai Shri Ram” in response to some students in the audience who shouted the same slogan. The entire auditorium then joined in and chanted the slogan in chorus. The woman professor, who was on the stage, asked the student to leave and said that such religious slogans should not be made since it was a cultural event at the college.
“We are here for some cultural programme and for some good time, so why there is slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’. There is no logic behind it. These events can only be successful when you are disciplined,” the professor was heard saying in the viral video.

Another video shows another professor coming out in support of her colleague and explaining to the students not to make any kind of sloganeering at the cultural fest as “everyone was having a good time”. She said that there was no logic behind chanting “Jai Shri Ram” at a cultural programme and that such events can only be successful when the students are disciplined and follow the basic rules of the educational institution.
As the videos went viral, police were deployed outside the college to prevent any untoward incident. The director of the college, Dr Sanjay Kumar Singh, issued a video statement saying that an inquiry committee has been formed to probe the matter and that no action will be taken against the students. Meanwhile, right-wing outfit Hindu Raksha Dal (HRD) President Pinki Chaudhary announced that he would visit the college on Saturday.
