Over 1,000 residents at Saya Gold Avenue Society in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad complain of illness due to water contamination in their housing society. The residents complain of stomach-ailments reportedly due to the presence of coliform bacteria in eight of 15 water samples from the society’s tanks, leading to diarrhoea, nausea and other gastrointestinal issues.

Additional Chief Medical Officer (CMO) RK Gupta revealed that one doctor has been assigned to each tower and water samples from neighbouring societies are being tested. The additional CMO reported that 1,085 residents have suffered stomach-related ailments in the past ten days, with 18 hospitalised and 13 still receiving treatment.

The official also stated that water samples were also collected from a few adjacent societies, including Shipra Suncity, Parasnath Majestic and Krishna Apra Garden Residency, which were sent to Lucknow for testing. He said the health department will also collect stool samples from residents of Saya Gold Avenue Society for further investigation, adding that health camps have been stationed within the society, which have provided care to 160 patients so far.
