The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation is set to activate its Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) on November 15, aiming to enhance the city's traffic management system. Under the plan, traffic violations will be automatically recorded and fines will be issued digitally.

The Municipal Corporation has installed high-quality smart cameras at 41 key locations in the city. These cameras, part of the ITMS project, will monitor traffic round-the-clock, not just for traffic management and surveillance, but also to identify violators.

To support the system, the Municipal Corporation has set up a dedicated ITMS control room at its headquarters, while the police department is establishing a separate control unit at the police headquarters.

Currently, more than 1,00,000 fines are issued annually to drivers who violate traffic rules. With the ITMS, it is expected that 1,00,000 fines will be issued per month.

How do the cameras work?

ITMS cameras are designed to transmit live feeds to both control rooms, where the traffic personnel will generate a fine based on the vehicle number and send it to the mobile number registered with the RTO (Regional Transport Office) for the respective vehicle owner.

It is expected that the most common fines issued via ITMS cameras will include jumping red lights, two-wheeler riders without helmets, car drivers not wearing seat belts, using a mobile phone while driving, and carrying three people on a two-wheeler.

“The ITMS control room at the police office is nearing completion. Through these cameras, key locations will be monitored, and fines will also be issued to those who violate traffic rules,” said J Ravinder Goud, Commissioner of Police.
