The suspension of the fitness inspection process for commercial vehicles in Ghaziabad has added to the difficulties faced by vehicle owners and drivers. For the past week, fitness checks have not been conducted at the private fitness centre in Dasna, forcing vehicle owners to travel to other districts for inspections.
The Dasna centre inspects the fitness of more than 100 commercial vehicles every day. Ghaziabad district has over 65,000 registered commercial vehicles, out of which the fitness certificates of more than 28,000 vehicles have already expired. With the closure of the centre, vehicle owners are facing the risk of penalties for operating vehicles without a valid fitness certificate.
Several vehicle owners have been repeatedly visiting the Regional Transport Office (RTO), but are being advised to approach fitness centres in neighbouring districts. Ravi Kumar, a bus owner, said his bus’s fitness certificate expired on Saturday. The bus is currently being used for the ongoing Ram Katha programme at Ramlila Maidan in Kavinagar, and operating it without a valid certificate could invite fines. He added that he was instructed to get the fitness check done outside the district due to the suspension at the Dasna centre.
Responding to the issue, ARTO (Administration) Ashok Kumar Srivastava said that the private fitness centre in Dasna is undergoing an upgrade. Once completed, fitness inspections will be conducted using modern machines and computerised systems.
The inspection report, including details of any deficiencies in the vehicle, will be sent directly to the vehicle owner’s mobile phone. He assured that the fitness inspection process will resume soon after the upgradation work is completed.
