The supply of Ganges water to the Trans-Hindon area will be suspended starting tomorrow, Thursday, October 2, and is expected to last until Diwali. The shutdown is for the annual post-monsoon cleaning of the Ganga Canal. During this period, the Municipal Corporation will take over the responsibility of providing drinking water to residents.
This yearly shutdown affects an estimated 1 million people in major residential areas including Indirapuram, Vaishali, Vasundhara, Kaushambi, Brij Vihar, and the Delta colonies. With water treatment plants at both Siddharth Vihar and Pratap Vihar closed, residents are expected to face water shortages.
The Municipal Corporation will supply groundwater via borewells and tankers. However, the supply will be limited to once a day, in the morning.
Residents have expressed concerns about the quality and reliability of this alternative arrangement.
- Vinay Sharma, a resident of Vaishali, stated that the supplied groundwater has a very high TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), making it poor in quality and difficult to use.
- Neeru Jain, another resident, mentioned that people are forced to arrange for bottled water every year, claiming that no adequate prior arrangements are made by the Municipal Corporation or the Water Corporation.
