In good news for the city's one million residents, a long-standing demand for a world-class sports facility is set to be fulfilled with the construction of Ghaziabad's second-largest sports complex in Rajnagar Extension. Under the direction of Mayor Sunita Dayal, officials have now initiated the tender process for the project.
Addressing A Long-Standing Need
The city's athletes have long faced a shortage of adequate public facilities. The existing Mahamaya Stadium, the city's largest, does not cater to all sports. While numerous private academies operate, their high fees are prohibitive for many families, often forcing talented athletes to travel to Delhi for training and competitions.
Project Details And Facilities
The government has approved the project under the State Smart City scheme at a cost of Rs 9.22 crore. The key features of the complex include:
Implementing Agency: Construction will be carried out by C&DS, a unit of the Jal Nigam.
Area and Model: The complex will be built on an environmentally friendly model over an area of 48,000 square metres.
Sports Facilities: It will offer facilities for 30 different indoor and outdoor sports, including a cricket pitch, tennis lawn, volleyball court, swimming pool, shooting range, jogging tracks, and courts for badminton and basketball.
Amenities: The complex will also feature parking, a 1,033-square-foot banquet and party lawn, an open cafeteria, and a two-storey building with guest rooms, a yoga room, and a doctor's clinic.
Official Confirmation
Mayor Sunita Dayal confirmed that she has instructed officials to expedite the process to ensure the project moves forward swiftly.
She said, "Officials have been instructed to expedite the construction of the sports complex. The tender process has begun. Work will commence soon."
