The Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) University in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur announced to establish a ‘Centre for Studies on Ayodhya’ (CSA) and a course on ‘Historicity of Ayodhya’ for postgraduate students of history from 2024-25 academic session.
The DDU University administration stated that the Centre for Studies on Ayodhya (CSA) will be set up in the Faculty of Arts and will also coordinate with various departments of the university to conduct research on Ayodhya and Ram. The centre will also explore the spiritual, cultural and historical aspects of Ayodhya, which is expected to emerge as a religious tourism centre.
Meanwhile, the course on 'Historicity of Ayodhya' will be an elective course for students of other disciplines as well. The course will cover the historical development of Ayodhya from the pre-Vedic period to the present day.

University vice-chancellor, Prof Poonam Tandom, said the CSA will provide a platform for students and researchers to learn more about the lives and contributions of great personalities associated with Ayodhya and the surrounding region, such as Ram, Gautam Buddha and Kabir.
Prof Tandom added that the university is an important centre of learning in Purvanchal region, which has many sites of religious, spiritual and historical significance. She stated that while Lord Ram's birthplace Ayodhya is 134 km away, Gautam Buddha's Parinirvan sthal, Kushinagar is just 55 km away, his birthplace Lumbini is 122 km away and Saint Kabir's Samadhi place is 30 km away.
