The police have solved the blind murder case of a mother and daughter in Ghoshipurwa after an intensive 11-day investigation. The revelation has shocked the community, as the perpetrator was not an outsider but Rajat, a young man deeply trusted by the family who addressed the victim, Vimla, as his aunt (Bua).

The Motive: Debt And Lavish Lifestyle

According to the police, Rajat, the son of railway employee Ramadhar, committed the crime to clear his debts and fund a lavish lifestyle for his girlfriend.

Financial Pressure: Rajat was struggling with debts and installments from online loan apps.

Spending the Loot: After stealing approximately Rs 4.5 lakh in cash and jewellery, he spent the money aggressively:

  • Purchased a Rs 1.5 lakh mobile phone for his girlfriend.
  • Gave Rs 2 lakh to his girlfriend's father.
  • Gave Rs 50,000 to his own father, claiming it was earnings from property dealing.

The Crime: A Calculated Betrayal

SP City Abhinav Tyagi stated that the accused was fully aware of the household's daily routine and cash reserves. He executed the crime with cold calculation:

Intoxication: On the night of the incident, Rajat visited the house and served alcohol to Shanti Devi and her daughter Vimla.

The Murder: Once they were intoxicated, he bludgeoned them to death with a hammer.

Forensic Evasion: To avoid leaving fingerprints, he had wrapped the hammer in a cloth before striking.

No Forced Entry: Since he was a known guest, there were no signs of forced entry, which initially puzzled investigators.

The Investigation: Cracking The Blind Case

The investigation was challenging due to the lack of physical evidence at the scene. However, the police team employed extensive technical surveillance:

Data Analysis: They examined footage from 800 CCTV cameras and analyzed call detail records (CDRs) of 200 mobile numbers.

The Breakthrough: Rajat’s unusual spending spree, his mobile location patterns, and his behavior brought him onto the police radar. When taken into custody, he broke down and confessed.

The Betrayal Of Trust

The depth of the betrayal was highlighted by the fact that after the murder, Sushila (Shanti Devi’s elder daughter and the complainant) stayed at Rajat’s house for two days before leaving for Jaunpur. While she had suspected robbery in her police report, she never imagined the "nephew" next door was the killer.

Arrest And Recovery

Rajat, who already has two prior assault cases registered against him, has been arrested. Based on his information, police recovered:

  • A stolen chain, ring, and 17 grams of melted gold.
  • Rs 50,000 in cash.
  • The hammer used as the murder weapon.
  • A motorbike.
