Motorists travelling on the Gorakhpur Link Expressway are set to experience world-class ride quality, thanks to the implementation of cutting-edge Swiss technology. The Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPIDA) has adopted a vibration and AI-based technology developed by Switzerland’s ETH University Zurich and its spin-off company, RTDT Laboratory AG, to ensure smooth and high-standard surface conditions.
According to Hari Pratap Shahi, the Additional Chief Executive Officer of UPIDA, this advanced technology was first tested on the Ganga Expressway and delivered promising results. Following this, it has now been deployed to enhance the ride quality of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway.

The system utilises Innova vehicles equipped with vibration detection equipment and seven accelerometer sensors to analyse road surface conditions, gradient uniformity, and driving comfort. The collected data is translated into online graphs, instantly identifying stretches that do not meet prescribed standards.
Although the four lanes of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway have not yet been fully completed, the ride quality and comfort have been significantly upgraded based on the evaluation reports. Similar improvements are now planned for other major expressways, including the Bundelkhand, Agra-Lucknow, and Purvanchal expressways.
Meanwhile, all six lanes of the Ganga Expressway are also being evaluated using the same Swiss technology to address any deficiencies.
Preparations for the grand inauguration of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway on June 20 are complete. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is scheduled to inaugurate the project. Industrial Development Minister Nand Gopal Gupta ‘Nandi’ met with the Chief Minister on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming event and associated industrial development initiatives.
