To expedite the Sahjanwa-Dohrighat new railway line project, considered significant for the development of Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) Himanshu Verma held a review meeting with concerned departments on Tuesday.
In the meeting with officials from the Railways, Public Works Department (PWD), the Special Land Acquisition Officer, and other relevant authorities, the CRO reviewed the progress of land acquisition and directed that the process be completed soon.
Land Acquisition Status
The meeting focused on the project's land acquisition status. A total of 343 hectares of land is to be acquired in the district.
- Acquired so far: 51 hectares
- Pending acquisition: 292 hectares
After a detailed discussion on the pending cases, the CRO directed that the registration for all remaining landowners be completed on a priority basis to prevent any obstruction to the project's construction work.
He stated that the acquisition process should be "completed transparently and swiftly," and any technical or documentary hurdles in the registration process should be resolved immediately.
Project Significance And Benefits
The CRO emphasised the project's importance, stating it will not only facilitate regional transport but also "give a new direction to trade, industry, and employment opportunities."
- It will improve rail connectivity between Gorakhpur and Mau.
- It will reduce the distance to Varanasi by approximately 30 km.
- The CRO added that this project will prove to be a "milestone for the development of the Gorakhpur region."
- Railway officials noted that the commencement of this line will not only ease travel between Sahjanwa and Dohrighat but will also connect the surrounding rural areas to the railway network.

Total Cost: Approximately Rs 1,320 crore
Length: Approximately 81 kilometers
New Stations: 12 new stations are proposed. Prominent ones include Sahjanwa, Uruwa Bazar, Barhapar, Dubauli, and Dohrighat.
Completion Target: 2027
Directives And Outlook
The CRO instructed the officials of the Railways and the PWD to prepare a joint action plan with mutual coordination to ensure that all activities—land acquisition, surveying, and construction—can be completed within the stipulated timeframe.

He asked all officials to submit regular progress reports and to report any problems immediately. All officials present at the meeting pledged to work together to complete the project on time. The CRO expressed confidence that with the cooperation of all departments, the project will be completed "even before the scheduled time."
