As personnel depart for the first phase of polling in the Bihar Assembly election, all preparations have been completed, and the distribution of voter slips is almost finished.

For voters who may not have their voter ID card or have lost it, the Election Commission has confirmed that they can still cast their vote. This can be done by using one of 12 alternative documents approved by the Commission.

In Muzaffarpur, where polling is scheduled for all 11 assembly constituencies on November 6, voters can use these alternative IDs to exercise their rights.

Accepted Alternative Documents

The Election Commission has approved the following 12 documents as valid alternatives to a voter ID card:

- Aadhaar card

- MNREGA job card

- Passbook with photograph issued by a bank or post office

- Health insurance smart card (issued under the Ayushman Bharat scheme by the Ministry of Labour)

- Driving licence

- PAN card

- Smart card (issued by the Registrar General of India under the National Population Register)

- Indian passport

- Pension document with photograph

- Service identity card with photograph (issued to employees by central/state governments, public sector undertakings, or public limited companies)

- Official identity card (issued to MPs, MLAs, and MLCs)

- Unique Disability ID (UDID) card (issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India)

Helpline For Complaints

For any election-related complaints, the helpline number 1950 is available and will be active 24 hours a day. The Commission has also provided a toll-free number for complaints and assistance related to voter cards.
