Despite the deadline for filing objections to the provisional Panchayat voter list having ended last week, complaints regarding alleged irregularities continue to pour in from several areas in Gorakhpur. While some villages have reported the deletion of genuine voters’ names, others have raised concerns over the inclusion of outsiders and ineligible individuals in the electoral rolls.
In certain Panchayats, villagers have alleged that the names of young men’s fiancées were added to the voter list even before marriage. In more serious cases, wives of men who were married only in the last week of November were reportedly registered as voters in advance, despite the revision campaign period for adding or deleting names having already concluded. Complaints of minors being included in the voter list have also surfaced from multiple villages.
Several villagers and potential Panchayat election candidates have expressed anger over allegations that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) misplaced forms submitted during the revision process, resulting in eligible voters being excluded from the list.
A major controversy has emerged in Koni Gram Panchayat under the Sadar tehsil, where villagers have accused the BLO of deliberately introducing large-scale irregularities in the voter list. According to the complaint, influenced by a particular group, the names of around 170 existing voters were removed, while minors, residents of other villages, and other ineligible individuals were allegedly added.
Former village Pradhan Prem Chand Chaurasia, Digvijay Singh, and several villagers submitted a written complaint to Sadar SDM Deepak Gupta. They stated that the official door-to-door verification drive for addition and deletion of names was scheduled between August 14 and September 29, 2025.
However, they pointed out that Satish, a village youth who married Meena on November 23, 2025, had his wife’s name already listed at serial number 33 in the voter list. Similarly, Vishal, who married Mohini on November 29, 2025, found his wife’s name included at serial number 105. In contrast, Sakshi, daughter of villager Krishna Mohan, who was also married on November 29, had her name removed from the list. Sakshi’s mother, Saroj, was also reportedly deleted from the voter roll.
Villagers further alleged that several minors were registered as voters, while many eligible youths above 18 years of age were deliberately excluded. It was also claimed that a young man residing at his maternal grandparents’ home in Koni Gram Panchayat was fraudulently included in the voter list.
A similar case has been reported from Narayanpur village in Uruwa block. There, villagers alleged that the name of a young man’s fiancée, whose marriage is scheduled for March 2026, has already been included in the voter list at serial number 1135. Residents have also accused the BLO of misplacing submitted forms and deleting the names of existing voters.
The district administration has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
