Gorakhpur is moving forward with strengthening its electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure amid a growing number of e-vehicles in the city. Tata Power and Nitcon have proposed setting up EV charging stations at more than 30 locations, and the Municipal Corporation has begun the approval process for seven key sites.
Currently, Tata Power’s proposals have been approved for two locations, including the airport and a multi-level car park. Nitcon will set up a station on Gorakhnath Mandir Road. Once operational, these stations will enable EV users to charge two-wheelers in 30-40 minutes and four-wheelers in 45-60 minutes, providing much-needed convenience to residents.

While the stations will not offer amenities such as toilets, drinking water, or air for tyres, the initiative is expected to boost e-mobility and support Gorakhpur’s transition to a cleaner, environmentally friendly transport system.
Under the Municipal Corporation’s plan, companies will receive land measuring 5x5 feet at public locations and intersections for free. In return, they will pay the corporation Rs 1 per unit of electricity consumed. Companies will also be allowed to place advertisements at the stations, sharing 30 per cent of the revenue with the corporation.
“The establishment of these EV charging stations will provide convenience to citizens and strengthen efforts to reduce pollution in the city,” said Atul Kumar, Additional Municipal Commissioner.
