Undergraduate and postgraduate students from the journalism department at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University began an indefinite sit-in protest on Friday. The protest is taking place at the gate of the Hindi department.
Primary Demand: Media Lab
- The students' protest is centered on their demand for the opening of a media lab in the department.
- The students state that the university administration had promised to open a media lab three years ago.
- Despite assurances given in every academic session, the lab has not materialised.
- The students claim the Vice-Chancellor had assured them at the beginning of the current session that the lab would be inaugurated on November 14, but the work has not even started.
The students, who continued their protest late into the night, have stated they will only end the sit-in when the Vice-Chancellor personally comes and assures them their demands will be met.
Other Demands
In addition to the immediate foundation stone laying for the media lab, the students are also demanding:
- A refund of half the tuition fees for all students.
- The repair of their dilapidated classroom.
- The installation of a smart board.
