A 25-year-old woman was found hanging under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Saraswatipuram Colony, Shahpur, on Thursday night. Following the incident, the victim's sister filed a written complaint accusing the in-laws of dowry harassment and murder.

Police Action

Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and sent it for a post-mortem examination. A forensic team also visited the site to collect evidence. Station House Officer (SHO) Chandrabhan Singh stated that a written complaint has been received from the deceased's sister. He confirmed that the police are investigating all aspects of the case and further legal action will be taken based on the post-mortem report.

Background Of The Victim

The deceased was identified as Sushmita Singh, originally a resident of Hardupatti (Turkpatti police station area) in Kushinagar district. She was the eldest of three sisters.

Marriage: Sushmita was married in 2021 to Shani Rao, a resident of Lane No. 1, Saraswatipuram Colony.

Family Details: Shani works at a private company, while his father is a retired railway official. The couple has a two-year-old son.

Allegations Of Harassment

Sushmita’s younger sister, Muskan, who resides in Lucknow, has leveled serious allegations against the husband and in-laws. In her complaint, she stated that Sushmita had been subjected to harassment for dowry since her marriage. She further alleged that Shani would frequently assault Sushmita while under the influence of alcohol.

The Final Phone Call

According to Muskan, she had a phone conversation with Sushmita on Thursday afternoon. During the call, Sushmita reportedly spoke about the ongoing harassment and expressed her desire to come to Lucknow. Tragically, later that evening, the family received the news of her death by hanging.
