Under Phase 2 of the Chief Minister Green Road Infrastructure Development (CM GRID) Scheme, five city roads connected to the Golghar area will be transformed into 'smart' roads. The Municipal Corporation has commenced construction on the 4.44-kilometre project, which is estimated to cost Rs 52.45 crore and has a completion target of 15 months, by November 2026.
Inspired By Pimpri-Chinchwad Model
The design for these smart roads is inspired by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in Maharashtra, which was visited by Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Singh Sogarwal and Chief Engineer Amit Kumar Sharma. Based on their observations, the project's design was modified to include several unique public amenities:
- Tables with built-in chess and ludo boards will be installed on the footpaths.
- Parking facilities for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers will be available every 100 metres.
- Electrical transformers will be installed at a height to clear ground space.
- The roads will feature dedicated ducts made of HDPE pipes for various utility cables.
Project Scope And Details
Construction work, starting from the Chhatrasangh Chauraha side, has begun on a total of 4.44 kilometres of roads. The project, supervised by Executive Engineer Ashok Bhati and Assistant Engineer Shailesh Kumar, will cover the following stretches:
- 0.78 km from KutcheryChauraha to Kali Mandir.
- 1.25 km from Shivoy Hotel to Ganesh Chowk via Agrasen Tiraha and Vijay Chowk.
- 2.37 km covering multiple interconnected roads:
- Shastri Chowk to ChhatrasanghChauraha via Ambedkar Chowk.
- Ambedkar Chowk to AshpraTiraha via Hariom Nagar Tiraha.
- Hariom Nagar to Town Hall via KutcheryChauraha.
Prior to starting the work, a joint survey was conducted by UPPCL, the Municipal Corporation, Jal Kal, GDA, BSNL, and other agencies to plan for utility shifting. The construction has been awarded to GS Coating and AK Engineering (JP).

Decision Pending On Demolition Of Obstructions
Several structures, including the Municipal Corporation's night shelter at Chhatrasangh Chowk, the employment office, corporation-owned shops near the bus depot, and the Commissioner's office boundary wall, fall within the scope of the road widening.
According to Executive Engineer Ashok Bhati, a decision regarding the demolition of these obstructing constructions has not yet been made. The matter will be discussed in a meeting with Commissioner Anil Dhingra after the Dussehra festival.
