Efforts are underway to launch AI-driven teleICU services in Prayagraj hospitals, modeled on the successful setup used during the Maha Kumbh. Leading this initiative, Prayagraj’s Cantonment Board General Hospital has proposed operating Artificial Intelligence-based teleICUs in Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, and Fatehpur, in collaboration with super-specialty hospitals in Lucknow.
These teleICUs aim to boost the capacity of government hospitals, offering affordable treatment at just Rs one per registration slip. Additionally, super-specialist OPDs are planned to run once a week in these districts. The proposal is currently awaiting government approval.
During the Maha Kumbh, the Cantonment Hospital had successfully operated AI-enabled 10-bed ICUs equipped with advanced tools and internet-connected CCTVs, linking directly with Lucknow hospitals for real-time specialist support.

The AI software used could translate 22 Indian and 19 international languages into Hindi or English, aiding communication between patients and doctors. The hospital now plans to use the same model to upgrade healthcare infrastructure across the region.
According to Hospital Director SK Pandey, if approved, ICU services will be available 24/7, while weekly OPDs will be conducted with support from Medanta Hospital, Lucknow. Continuous training for district-level doctors by specialists is also part of the plan.
Notably, the Cantonment Hospital will bear all expenses without requiring additional government funding. Dr Rakesh Sharma, Additional Director, Medical Health and Family Welfare, confirmed that the proposal has been forwarded to the Director General of Medical Health, noting its potential to greatly enhance public healthcare services.
