Greater Noida: Two college students opened fire at each other at a private hostel in Greater Noida’s Knowledge Park area on Tuesday, leaving one dead and the other critically injured. The injured student is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Both were roommates, and the incident occurred around noon in a hostel room at Knowledge Park Phase-III.

Students Information 

Police said the two students have been identified as Deepak Kumar, 22, son of Deveela Venkat from Chilkuluri, Andhra Pradesh. He was pursuing an MBA at a private college. The injured student has been identified as Devansh Chauhan, 23, son of Surendra Singh from Bhagwan Talkies, Agra. He is pursuing a PGDM course in the city.

According to the police, preliminary reports stated that the room was locked from the inside when a security guard heard groaning sounds. He immediately informed the warden, who tried to open the main door but was unsuccessful.

Using a ladder at the back of the building, the guard saw both students lying on the floor in a pool of blood. He then broke the balcony glass to gain entry.

“When repeated attempts failed, staff climbed up the rear balcony with a ladder and peeped inside. Both students were lying in a pool of blood. The glass window was broken to gain entry, and the door was opened from inside,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Greater Noida Sudhir Kumar said.

Both Students Were Close Friends 

Preliminary investigation suggests that the two, who were close friends, got into a dispute for unknown reasons, leading one of them to shoot the other in the head with a licensed revolver before turning the weapon on himself. Deepak Kumar died on the spot, while Devansh Chauhan was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. 

Things Recovered From Crime Place 

Their families have been informed and are expected to be questioned upon arrival in Greater Noida. Police recovered a licensed revolver, four live cartridges, two empty shells, a phone, a laptop, and other items from the crime scene. Forensic experts and senior officers inspected the site, which has been sealed, and investigations are ongoing from all possible angles.

“Prima facie, it appears that there was some altercation between the two friends following which one of them fired at the other and then attempted to kill himself.The firearm used was a licensed revolver. We are investigating all possible angles, including the ownership of the weapon, the sequence of firing, and the motive,” said a senior officer from Knowledge Park police station.
