In a late-night raid on Tuesday, Babugarh police seized firecrackers worth approximately Rs 5 lakh from a house in Gohra Alamgirpur village and arrested one individual in connection with the illegal storage. The confiscated goods were loaded into a pickup truck and transported to the police station.

Babugarh Police Station In-charge, Inspector Munish Pratap Singh, stated that police received a tip-off on Tuesday night about a large stash of illegal firecrackers at the residence of a man named Deepak. Acting on the information, a police team raided the house. The accused attempted to flee as the police arrived but was apprehended. A search of the premises revealed about ten cartons of firecrackers, with an estimated market value of Rs 5 lakh.

An FIR has been registered against the homeowner, Deepak. Police are now investigating the origin of the firecracker consignment and are working to identify other individuals involved in this illegal trade.

Illegal Storage Increases Ahead Of Diwali

With the festival of Diwali approaching, those involved in the illicit firecracker trade have begun hoarding stock. This is not an isolated incident; recently, police in Hapur Dehat and Hafizpur also made arrests related to illegal firecrackers. Authorities note that despite police action, perpetrators seem undeterred.

Amroha Identified As Potential Source

While there is a complete ban on the manufacturing and sale of firecrackers in the Delhi-NCR region, production is reportedly ongoing in Amroha. It is suspected that consignments of firecrackers are being smuggled from Amroha to Hapur and sold secretly at night.
