At least six people were injured after a dispute over the alleged theft of cow dung cakes escalated into violent clashes between residents of Kathikheda village and the neighbouring village of Salai in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district on Friday.

The incident occurred in the jurisdiction of the Hapur Dehat police station when members of the two communities confronted each other, leading to a brawl and stone-pelting. The violence triggered panic and chaos across the village.

According to local sources, Surendra, a resident of Kathikheda, had been facing repeated theft of cow dung cakes for several days. On Friday morning, he was informed that a young manfrom a different community in Salai village was allegedly involved in the theft. When Surendra reached the spot and objected, the argument quickly escalated. Soon, large numbers of people from both villages gathered, and the situation spiralled out of control.

Police Deployment

Upon receiving information, Circle Officer (City) Varun Mishra and Hapur Dehat SHO Neeraj Kumar rushed to the scene along with a strong police force. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the situation was brought under control.

CO Varun Mishra confirmed that the violence stemmed from the dispute over the theft of cow dung cakes. He said the matter is being investigated thoroughly and assured that strict action will be taken against all those found responsible for disturbing peace and law and order.

In a separate incident, Tensions erupted in Ballari’s Awambavi area last night when a clash broke out between two groups, reportedly over Congress workers attempting to put up a banner ahead of a Valmiki statue unveiling event scheduled for Friday. The violence left 28-year-old Congress worker Rajashekhar dead, according to NDTV.

Security has been tightened with additional forces deployed in the area. The SP of Ballari said Section 144 has not been imposed yet and authorities are closely monitoring the situation. Gunshots were reportedly fired as supporters of KRPP MLA Janardhana Reddy and Congress MLA Bharath Reddy confronted each other, though Bharath Reddy denied any involvement in putting up the banner.
